During a recent ceremony with two friends, each of us held intentions for personal growth and development. However, amidst the hours-long ritual, one of my friends felt compelled to conduct a ceremony within the ceremony, dedicated to her deceased brother. She sensed his presence before but felt an urgent need to honor his spirit in that moment and she felt it was important that all three of us participate. We moved outside and sat within the sacred space we had created, where her brother’s energy revealed itself. I've never been one to attempt contacting the departed. I didn’t become either, but I found many other ways to offer my energy in the service of helping others. And I realize now, that my deep desire to help others heal comes from an understanding of how challenging, and sometimes traumatic, life can be. I know it is possible to heal from traumatic experiences because I have done it and I have always wanted to help others learn to do the same. There is relief and even healing available to us. We don’t have to continue to suffer. It takes courage and energy for us to look square in the eye of the things that scare or haunt us, but to do so reduces their power and provides a pathway for healing.
